Course Conditions

Amelia Island Plantation continues its commitment to improving the overall conditioning of its four golf courses. These four, fine courses -- Long Point, Oak Marsh, Ocean Links and Amelia River are all seeing improvements.

A very significant part of Amelia’s commitment is the partnership with ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance, the country’s leading golf course maintenance contractor. Amelia Island Plantation and ValleyCrest formed their partnership in the summer of 2007 and our initial plan targeted several areas including improved water management, pest eradication, turfgrass health and density, and overall attention to detail. The results of this plan are showing and we are proud to say that Amelia Island Plantation’s golf courses have made tremendous progress.

Our signature Tom Fazio-designed facility, Long Point, is in the best overall shape ever. The TifEagle Bermuda grass greens are in excellent condition and the overseeding of the greens and fairways look great. As we transition into summer our playing conditions will change. Our winter overseed will transition out and our warm summer grasses will take over. Long Point has a few closures scheduled in May and August to perform aerifications that will help the transition of these grasses. With such conditions, challenging golf, views of tidal marshes and of the Atlantic Ocean, Long Point is a “must play”.

The Tom Jackson-designed, Amelia River Golf Club, has improved in all respects and offers golfing purists the increasingly rare experience of playing a course free of homes. Much like Long Point, Amelia River is in excellent condition. They too will begin to transition grasses as we enter the summer months and we only expect a few closures for aerification to help the process. Amelia River Golf Club is Amelia Island Plantation’s contribution to core, straightforward golf surrounded by a gorgeous natural setting. All manner of players can enjoy this traditional yet unique golf experience.

The classic designs of Pete Dye at Oak Marsh and Bobby Weed at Ocean Links are also seeing improved conditions and playability. The natural beauty of tidal marshes, intercoastal waters, the Atlantic Ocean, and mature Live Oak trees, these courses are even more stunning. These two courses are the core courses for our resort guest. Both courses are currently overseeded on the greens, fairways and some select tees. As we enter the warm summer months we will again transition from the cool winter grasses to our warm summer grasses. There are few more closures scheduled for the summer with both of these courses. Largely due to the age of the courses, we try to plan more cosmetic surgery to keep these ladies looking great.

At Amelia Island Plantation, we are committed to providing our members and guests with a first class golf experience. In the summer of 2007, Amelia Island Plantation threw its hat in the ring with the leading golf resorts on the Atlantic Seaboard. Our golf courses -- as layouts and tests of golf -- have long deserved to be in that realm and now their care, playability and beauty support that status.

If you have not visited Amelia Island Plantation please let us host you soon on one or more of our four great courses. If you know our golf but haven’t played here recently, come see what we’re so excited about.
