Reporting Relationship
Social Recreation Interns report directly to the Social Recreation Manager, Assistant Social Recreation Manager and indirectly to the Group Recreation Manager and the Director of Recreation, depending on the program.
Hours
Interns will be scheduled 340 - 50 hours per week with one or two days off. Some exceptions will apply.
Overview
The intern is responsible for planning, implementing, and running various children’s and family programs. The intern will be responsible for planning, implementing and running various holiday programs. The intern will receive an opportunity to experience procedures in various departments within the recreation department. Emphasis will vary depending on business demands.
Required Skills/Certificates Including Physical Requirements
Must have:
• Exceptional customer service skills • A basic knowledge of computers • Recreational planning and programming experience and a desire to work with children • A valid driver’s license and maintain acceptable driver status (See “Driving Eligibility”) • Ocean and pool swimming abilities • CPR, First Aid and AED Certification
Must be:
• Functionally literate with verbal and written communication skills • Fluent in conversational English (speaking, reading, writing and understanding) • Able to lift 75 pounds, be able to bend, stoop, push, pull, walk, climb stairs and stand for long periods of time • First Aid and CPR/PR (CPR for the professional rescuer) certified and have ocean and pool swimming abilities • Flexible and willing to work long and/or odd hours • A self-starter and be able to work independently
Preferred Skills/Certificates
• Public Speaking • First Aid and CPR/PR (CPR for Professional Rescuers) certified

Activities
1. Plan, implement, and run Kids Camp Amelia, Just For Kids, Family activities, and Teen programs.
2. Plan, implement, and run holiday programs.
3. Track and report program revenue.
4. Assist Group Recreation with implementation of conference group programs.
5. Plan and implement birthday parties.
6. Complete daily reports and school work in a timely manner.
7. Ring up guest checks in the Point of Sale computer system.
8. Supervise and utilize Recreation Aides for program support.
9. Greet and converse with in-house guests, group contacts, and vendors in a professional manner.
10. Staff the Information Hut by providing both property and local information, selling items, and handing out pool towels.
11. Develop, implement, and evaluate programs.
12. Learn administrative duties such as budgeting, purchasing, memos, and payroll.
13. Assist guests with program and services registration.
14. Assist with the upkeep of the facility and props or supplies.
15. Assist Amelia’s Wheels, Aquatics, and the Nature Center as needed.
16. Attend staff “Home Team” meetings.
17. Perform other duties as assigned.
The intern should expect to be scheduled in all weather conditions including direct sunlight for long periods of time and being exposed to pool chemicals.
