Internship Information

Golf Level 1

Reporting Relationship:

The intern reports directly to the Head Professional and indirectly to the Outside Supervisor, the Assistant Golf Professional, 2nd Assistant, and Director of Golf.

Hours

Interns will be scheduled an average of 32 - 45 hours per week.

Overview

Amelia’s four scenic courses were designed by internationally acclaimed golf course architects Pete Dye, Bobby Weed, Tom Fazio and Tom Jackson. The Golf Pro Shops at Amelia Island Plantation carry the latest equipment and fine quality golf fashions for men and women. The golf intern will assist resort and corporate guests, club members, property owners, and employees with services to provide a memorable golfing experience. Hours will fluctuate with occupancy and weather, however business is very strong, especially in the spring.

Required Skills/Certificates Including Physical Requirements

Must have:

• Exceptional customer service skills
• Basic knowledge of golf and good guest service skills
• A valid driver’s license and maintain acceptable driver status (See “Driving Eligibility”)

Must be:

• Functionally literate with good verbal skills
• Able to operate golf carts
• Fluent in conversational English (speaking, reading, writing and understanding)
• Able to work independently and able to work weekends and holidays with varied hours if required
• Able to exert up to 50 to 75 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 to 50 pounds frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move or lift objects
• Able to extend arms and hands; able to seize, grasp, hold, and turn objects with the hands
• To walk, stand, and drive a golf cart
• Able to see, hear, communicate, and keep up with a very active pace.

Preferred Skills/Certificates

• Be self-motivated and have an outgoing personality.

Equipment

• Golf Carts • Range ball washer • Telephone • Club repair tools

Activities

1.   Open and close bag room and cart barn.
2.   Pull out and prepare golf carts for players.
3.   Meet, greet, and assist golfers in any way necessary.
4.   Load and unload golf bags.
5.   Pick up range balls.
6.   Prepare golf carts for tournament.
7.   Deep clean driving range and golf carts.
8.   Issue rental clubs.
9.   Assist with course maintenance.
10. Attend staff “Home Team” meetings.
11. Attend Customer Service class.
12. Attend Home Team meetings
13. Perform all other duties assigned.

The intern will be exposed to all weather conditions. Heavy insect populations at times. Operation fluctuates from busy to slow to busy at a rapid pace, depending on the season.
