Reporting Relationship
Interns report directly to the Aquatics/Beach Operations Manager. The intern reports indirectly to the Director of Recreation
Hours
Interns will be scheduled 25-50 hours per week with one or two days off. Some exceptions will apply.
Overview
The intern will develop and master skills needed to operate pool and beach rental operations. This includes pool maintenance, pool chemical adjustments, giving swim lessons, beach rentals, and assisting the Aquatics and Recreation managers with other tasks as needed. The Aquatics staff is responsible for providing a safe, secure, and clean facility, excellent customer service, accident prevention, as well as lifesaving and first aid skills. The intern will gain experience with sales, beach operations, supervision, administration, maintenance, scheduling, pool chemicals adjustments, equipment maintenance, programming, safety, and customer service with emphasis on coordinating, scheduling and teaching swim lessons.
Required Skills/Certificates Including Physical Requirements
Must have:
• A valid driver¹s license and maintain acceptable driver status (See ³Driving Eligibility²) • 180 degrees peripheral vision and ability to distinguish shapes • Swim lesson teaching experience or Swim Team experience.
Must be:
• Able to extend arms and hands, seize, grasp, turn and hold objects with hands • Able to walk, run, swim and ride a bike • Able to use telephone, climb up and down stairs and move in tight corners • Fluent in conversational English (speaking, reading, writing and understanding)
Preferred Skills/Certifications
• WSI, CPO/AFO Certified • Beach Rental Experience • Red Cross: CPR, Lifeguarding and First Aid

Activities:
1. Arrange, organize, and teach swim lessons to ages 3 and up.
2. Perform preventive maintenance on the Beach Club, Dunes Club pools, Mr. Cooper's spa, beach rental equipment, and other operations equipment. Includes vacuuming, back washing, tile cleaning, skimming, filter maintenance, safety inspections, and equipment provisions.
3. Lead, plan, and organize Recreation Operations programs.
4. Assist with safety classes taught by the Manager (CPR, First Aid, etc.).
5. Schedule staff, act as Manager on Duty supervising staff, fellow interns, and lead various departmental meetings during MOD rotation.
6. Conduct safety inspections and contact internal and external vendors.
7. Work with Recreation interns on special projects and activities.
8. Complete a project and update the department training and program manuals.
9. Participate in the evaluation process of operations technicians, attendants, and management.
10. Learn administrative duties such as budgeting, purchasing, memos, and payroll.
11. Greet and converse with guests, answer telephones and handle guest complaints effectively.
12. Assist the Recreation Department with kids, teens and group events.
13. Follow rental procedures and maintain rental logs.
14. Investigate accidents or stolen/damaged equipment.
15. Conduct beach rental operations.
16. Assist with planning and achieving company and departmental goals.
17. Attend staff "Home Team" meetings.
18. Attend Customer Service class.
19. Perform other duties as assigned.
The intern should expect to be scheduled in all weather conditions including direct sunlight for long periods of time and being exposed to pool chemicals. The percentage of time spent on individual activities will vary depending on semester of internship.
