GOLF

In the world of golf, environmentally friendly course development and maintenance is not often the watchword. At Amelia Island Plantation, golf is as eco-friendly as the rest of our resort. With four courses certified as Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries, our golf courses are as beautiful as nature can be. With the help of nature – and our Nature Center’s master naturalists – our golf team maintains that certification. Our tree canopy of maritime forest, still at 75 percent of its original coverage in 1971, brings new meaning to the term “natural hazard”. By utilizing reclaimed water for irrigation and a turf grass and landscape agronomic program, our four golf courses stay in top condition both for our golfers and our environment.

Additional initiatives:

  • We are evaluating solar golf carts, both for their usefulness on the golf course and as an additional mode of transportation throughout our extensive property
  • A limited number of Segways, battery driven personal transporter, are equipped to carry golf bags and are available for periodic use on the golf courses
  • As with the rest of our residential and resort components, our golf club facilities practice re-cycling of plastic, glass, aluminum and newspaper
